Switching

Switch to Cometstep from Excel, registers or an older system

You do not need to stop everything to switch. Move in small steps, check each step, and keep your old records until you are sure. This is the plan we suggest.

Import your student list

Upload your Excel or CSV list. Every row is checked and problems are shown before anything is saved.

Import marks and routines

Marks and class routines can be imported from files too.

Run both for a month

Keep your old system going while you check that Cometstep gives the same totals.

Step 1: Write down what you have

List what you keep today: students, fees, attendance, marks, staff. Decide which one to move first. Most schools start with students and fees, or students and attendance.

Step 2: Set up and import

Create your classes and sections, add fee heads and import the student list. Fix the rows the import flags, such as a missing class or a repeated admission number. Nothing is saved until you confirm.

Step 3: Check against your old records

Compare a few classes' fee totals and attendance with your old registers. If something does not match, fix the setup before you go further.

Step 4: Go live

Pick a clean date, such as the start of a month or term. From that date, enter new receipts and attendance in Cometstep only. Keep the old files safe and read-only.

Have years of old records?

If you have many years of fee or marks history in an older system, write to [email protected]. Tell us what system you use and how many students you have, and we will tell you honestly what can be moved and how.
